Managing finances often feels draining and empowering at the same time.
Are you making enough income?
Could you make more?
Are you saving for the future? For a house? For kids?
What’s the plan if something happens to you – will your money be tied up in court before your kids can use it?
Raising these questions seems like a fast track to overwhelm. But it’s the first step to figuring out where you are on your journey.
If you're like most people, you were never taught to manage your finances. Learning by doing is great, though if you're stuck in avoidance, it’s hard to get out.
Or maybe you've done everything the "right" way. Got amazing grades in school, graduated at the top of your class, chose a safe and high earning job. But do you feel comfortable with your path towards wealth?
Wherever you are, it’s ok.
There’s no sense getting caught in a cycle of shame or fear about where you could be. Or what you could have done.
You’re here now. And that’s a start.
My Story
I’m an investor, financial wellness expert, and Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder with over 2 decades of financial experience. In my 20s I worked on trading floors at investment banks and also as a hedge fund portfolio manager during the financial crisis. My initial focus was institutional derivatives, primarily with JPMorgan and UBS, which means specializing in everything from equities lookalikes and ETFs to more complex options and volatility products. I’ve also specialized in alternative investments, including digital assets like online businesses and crypto, along with wealth management.
As a financial writer, I create marketing content for financial services and SaaS companies(invite-only). I've previously offered money coaching services for busy families and entrepreneurs, and I'm happy to help mentor women who want to start financial copywriting.
In my "spare" time, My daughter and I run a bilingual Chinese-English podcast with engaging content for Chinese learners.
Before my professional career, I spent my childhood in a money struggle that left me determined to rock my finances.
Highlights:
- Balancing the family checkbooks and paying bills as a 10 year old
- Tracking and planning our budget in between homework
- Filing bankruptcy for a family member
- Providing financial support and planning for healthcare costs
- Navigating financial markets on Wall Street through the 2008 crisis
- Achieving freedom from the 9-5
- Owning digital assets such as online businesses/crypto
- Living abroad as an expat in 5 countries, taking advantage of geographical arbitrage
- Designing a nomadic, location independent lifestyle with a child
- Raising a family with a mindset of abundance, in a trilingual/cultural environment
- Traveling the world to 57 countries on 6 continents
Ultimately, I wanted to achieve financial flexibility by my 30s, so that I could live and work on my own terms.
As hard work and a bit of luck would have it, I started designing a location-independent lifestyle. Having a spouse and children, including one with special needs, changed some of my equations, but I'd started down this path of freedom and it's taken on a life of its own.
